Step-by-Step Hajj Guide

The first day of Hajj. Pilgrims enter the state of Ihram, make their intention for Hajj, and travel to the tent city of Mina.

What to Do:

  1. 1Perform Ghusl (ritual bath) and put on Ihram garments
  2. 2Make the intention (Niyyah) for Hajj and recite Talbiyah
  3. 3Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr in Mina (shortened but not combined)
  4. 4Travel to Mina after sunrise
  5. 5Spend the day and night in Mina reciting Talbiyah, making dua, and preparing spiritually

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ حَجًّا

Labbayk Allaahumma Hajjan

Here I am, O Allah, for Hajj.

Talbiyah

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

Labbayk Allaahumma labbayk, labbayk laa shareeka laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, laa shareeka lak

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.

Tips:

  • Men wear two white unstitched cloths; women wear normal modest clothing
  • Use unscented soap and avoid perfume after entering Ihram
  • Stay hydrated — Mina can be very hot
  • Locate your tent in Mina early and note nearby landmarks
