Step-by-Step Hajj Guide
The first day of Hajj. Pilgrims enter the state of Ihram, make their intention for Hajj, and travel to the tent city of Mina.
What to Do:
- 1Perform Ghusl (ritual bath) and put on Ihram garments
- 2Make the intention (Niyyah) for Hajj and recite Talbiyah
- 3Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr in Mina (shortened but not combined)
- 4Travel to Mina after sunrise
- 5Spend the day and night in Mina reciting Talbiyah, making dua, and preparing spiritually

Labbayk Allaahumma Hajjan
Here I am, O Allah, for Hajj.
Talbiyah
لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ
Labbayk Allaahumma labbayk, labbayk laa shareeka laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, laa shareeka lak
Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.
Tips:
- •Men wear two white unstitched cloths; women wear normal modest clothing
- •Use unscented soap and avoid perfume after entering Ihram
- •Stay hydrated — Mina can be very hot
- •Locate your tent in Mina early and note nearby landmarks
